Beyoncé is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. She has one of the most spectacular and unique voices on the radio and it seems as though every single she releases is a hit. So, it takes a lot of courage for a musician to try to cover one of her songs – because they need to be ready to do it justice.
Zeek Power decided he was up for the challenge when he chose “Runnin’ (Lose It All)” as his audition song on “The Voice Australia”. Like any good artist he put his own spin on the ballad, and it was that decision that made the judges go wild for him.Instagram
Zeek describes his musical style as “Acoustic/RnB/Folk/Blues/Feels” and humbly considers himself a “musician and singer/songwriter of sorts”. He doesn’t abandon what he feels like he’s good at just to stay on trend – he is unique and likes it that way.
Zeek demonstrated that uniqueness from the very start of his audition on “The Voice Australia”. Armed with only his acoustic guitar, he stood on stage and began singing the beautiful ballad without any accompanying music – which had the judges immediately stunned.YouTube
His voice was nothing like Beyoncé’s, it was quiet in a powerful way and had a raspy soulful sound that can’t be imitated. Eventually, he backed up his vocals with his guitar, which got the judges even more invested in his performance.
It didn’t take long for them to start turning around, one-by-one, to enjoy his performance face-to-face.YouTube
In the end, all four judges turned their seats around and just soaked up Zeek’s gorgeous rendition of the song. Kelly Rowland could hardly contain her delight (Beyonce is her former bandmate, after all) while the other three couldn’t help but smile in amazement as Zeek finished his set.
