The Stranded Men And The Sea
Life is truly the greatest roller coaster we can ever take a ride on. At times you can find yourself at the highest peak experiencing a phenomenal time, and then suddenly take a plunge into the depths of probable destruction. Two men found floating near the shore of Hudson Beach, Fl experienced just that. Luckily for them, a trusty cooler was able to keep both men afloat for some time until finally, a rescue boat was able to spot them in the waters. The amazing encounter was recorded by Adam Vetter, one of the rescuers, and then later posted on social media. What an experience this must have been!
Vetter stated that he was returning back to shore with his buddies Fred Heidgerken, Joe Steplyk, and Rob Wells around the time of 6:30pm when they spotted a white capsized boat roughly 12 miles from the coast of Hudson Beach. Vetter says the crew attempted to call the Coast Guard, however it seems the signal was too weak to establish communication. As a result, the group decided to return to shore in order to make the call in an area where there would be improved reception. Now, this is where it gets interesting.Adam Vetter Source: Adam Vetter
As the group traversed the sea to make it back to shore, Fred Heidgerken saw what seemed to be something white in the water. Something seemed fishy about the whole thing, no pun intended. The boat decided to go and investigate in order to see if there was anything they can salvage as well as see if they could help in any way possible.Adam Vetter Source: Adam Vetter
“We turned the boat and as we got closer, we noticed it was a white cooler and then we [seen] hands waving in the air,” said Vetter.
As the crew drew closer to the white looking image, they finally saw what was in their view: two men clinging to a cooler for dear life! Immediately the crew approached the men in distress and began stretching a hand to help them out of the predicament. In what seemed like an eternity, the men reportedly had been floating for roughly 3-4 hours. That is some pretty scary stuff!
All three men helped in the rescue of the two victims found near the capsized boat. “The odds of us finding them were unbelievable after we ran across the boat,” Vetter said in a statement.Adam Vetter Source: Adam Vetter
At first, the two men who were rescued looked pretty shaken up. Fortunately, the waters were not intense or violent in any way and the day was clear with no signs of stormy weather. The fact that these men were able to stay patient and keep their composure for all that time out at sea speaks to the strength us humans possess in times when we face our darkest hour.Adam Vetter Source: Adam Vetter
Also, let’s not forget to give credit to the cooler! If it wasn’t for its ability to stay buoyant, then it’s pretty safe to say that these men would have undoubtedly ended up in Davy Jone’s locker. From the looks of it, we don’t know what brand of the cooler it is, but at least it looks generic enough to assume that all coolers can now pass as viably safe flotation device. And now you kids know, always remember to pack your cooler before you head out to explore the ocean.
