Most of us know the exhilarating feel of the first day of school. The rush of getting all your necessary school supplies and gear becomes crucial to that achieving that first great impression to your schoolmates and teachers. One of the most important steps to creating that experience includes a fresh dapper haircut from your most trusted barber.
For some, it’s a fairly simple experience that involves stepping in the barbershop, going through the haircut, and making your way out with a great big smile on your face knowing you’re looking as sharp as ever. However, this was not the case for a young 7-year-old named Brycen Juby. The young boy was excited about his first day in public school and was ready for his haircut, but nothing could have prepared him for what was to come.Youtube-FOX 8 News Cleveland Source: Youtube-FOX 8 News Cleveland
Brycen was diagnosed with Autism when he was 2-years old. Shortly after, his parents noticed that he also had apraxia of speech which caused Brycen to be non-verbal in his communication. As a result, Brycen experienced extreme discomfort when entering a barbershop with his parents Ashley and Joe. This led to having Brycen’s hair be cut at home in order to help reduce any further negative experiences which may be triggered from entering confined spaces such as a barbershop.Youtube-FOX 8 News Cleveland Source: Youtube-FOX 8 News Cleveland
Despite the accommodation, Brycen would still throw his occasional tantrums whenever his parents attempted to cut his hair. As Brycen developed, Ashley and Joe noticed a huge improvement when they saw that their son was able to finish a haircut session without throwing a huge fit. Finally, when Brycen turned 7, his parents decided it was time to give the barbershop one more try.Youtube-Fox 8 News Cleveland Source: Youtube-Fox 8 News Cleveland
The couple contacted Marco Conti, barber and co-owner of Marky Fresh Barbershop. As soon as they arrived at the establishment, Brycen began to cry. Marco started to see just how uncomfortable Brycen had become and then started to think about a solution that might help. “I could tell he felt more comfortable outside, so I was like right off the cuff,” Conti said. “I just wanted to make him feel safe and comfortable, and that there was nothing to fear.”Youtube-Fox 8 News Cleveland Source: Youtube-Fox 8 News Cleveland
Trimming for Success
Marco approached Brycen to ask if he could cut his hair outside, to which Brycen obliged. Marco moved a chair outside for the young lad in order to accommodate his needs. He made sure he was incredibly careful with each cut of his scissors. As the trimming continued, Brycen’s father Joe held his son’s cheeks to support him through the endeavor. The inspirational moment was captured on photo and touched many people’s hearts all over the internet.Youtube-Fox 8 News Cleveland Source: Youtube-Fox 8 News Cleveland
“He (Marco) was so accommodating and reassured me that everything would be great, and it was,” Ashley said, who was incredibly satisfied seeing her son happy with his new haircut. After the uplifting event, Marco wrote on his post, “Someone once told me, ‘with a great gift, you must do great things’,”.
A photo of Brycen’s sleek haircut shows him looking cleaner than a whistle with a smile radiating like a sun. Those who commented on the post showed great appreciation for the barber’s special accommodation that was requested by Brycen’s parents. Conti made it known that he wants everyone coming to his shop feeling good and leaving even better.Ashley Juby Source: Ashley Juby
