Birthday parties are a big deal for children, so many parents do their best to make these once-a-year special days as amazing as can be. But this mother couldn’t have guessed how big of a special day, her son’s 7th birthday would become.
Ask a stranger for a hand
Melody Joy Rensberer’s son had a 7th birthday coming up fast. But the Global Pandemic has made it difficult to prepare the types of birthday party she wanted. It didn’t help that her son, Theo, suffers from spina bifida, a condition that affects a child’s spine development. With the big day fast approaching, Melody had an idea to make the most of a bad situation.Facebook Source: Facebook
She knew her son loved dogs of all shapes, sizes, and breeds. So she decided that the best gift she could possibly give is a chance to meet as many dogs as possible. So she got onto social media and made two posts asking for strangers, neighbors, and friends to bring their dogs to her house and help celebrate Theo’s birthday.Pexels Source: Pexels
So here’s the plan
Melody made her post knowing that Facebook wouldn’t disappoint. Theo was a well-loved child and nearby strangers would take a few minutes out of their day to make Theo’s big day that much better. She figured that Theo could talk with the dogs and tehir owners, ask some questions, and then they could move to the next in line.Facebook Source: Facebook
Melody didn’t think it would even take too much time. In her head, she figured that, including neighbors and friends, she might get 15 people to come out and say hello. Even with those numbers, it would still be an incredible day for her son.
But she had no idea of what was in store.
One hundred and some dogs
Theo was outside of his house on the big day, waiting to see who would have come show up. We imagine his mom told him to expect just a small handful of dogs at most, so he was prepared. But much to his surprise and delight, more than 100 dogs came to visit.Facebook Source: Facebook
The dogs were presented to Theo one by one, with many doing tricks. Theo got to talk with the dogs and their owners to learn so much about these amazing canines. Some of these perfect strangers even came with small gifts for Theo. When asked about the occasion, MElody said:Facebook Source: Facebook

“Theo got to ask each dog questions, ‘What is its name, how old is he, where did you get him, how do you call him, did you save him?’ and got to tell everyone how excited he would be when we got to move into a ‘pet policy house’.”
Friends from far and wide
The most incredible part of the day wasn’t even the dogs. Melody spoke with some of the parents and dog owners and learned that some came from far away just for Theo. Some had even taken 45 minute long drives to make sure they wouldn’t miss the chance to see the boy’s smile.
For Theo though, one of the most special visitors was a Chihuahua.named Pinky. Pinky, like him, had spina bifida!, which led to a lot of questions for Pinky’s owner. It must have been incredible for Theo to know that he wasn’t alone and that even his favorite animals led great lives with the condition.Pexels Source: Pexels

One of Theo’s favorite visitors was a tiny Chihuahua named Pinky, who also happened to have spina bifida! Theo had plenty of questions for Pinky’s human about whether she uses a walker or a wheelchair like he does.Pexels Source: Pexels
